So, every once in a while someone writes in (using my contact form) and asks a question about a guest on The Colbert Report and their book. Usually it was an episode that aired a while ago and they just remembered they wanted to track the book down for a gift, summer reading, a book report, etc.
I thought it might be nice to share those questions and whatever answer I managed to come up with in case some of the rest of you had the same question. These will all be filed under "From the Mailbag".
Here's the first one ...
Hello,
I'm not sure when i saw this episode, but there was a man on the show who wrote a book about useless home made contraptions( I specifically remember a little box with a switch on top and all it did when you flipped the switch a little finger popped out and turned the switch off). I was wondering who that was and the title of the book.
Thank you very much.
Zach
And I responded ...
Hi, Zach ..
The fellow who presented that finger switch machine was Mark Freunfelder. I don’t know if his book includes that machine, but his book was Made by Hand.
He also writes for the very popular BoingBoing blog.
This is a video about the machine (I also embedded it below). And there are several links to more info in the description.
Cheers .. Kate
Oh .. A lot of people (like me) watch both The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Sometimes they aren't sure what show the guest appeared on. So I have a similar series of Q&A posts for The Daily Show. Make sure you check it out as well.
